Another quick update on trading...
Looks like the Delmon Young/Howie Kendrick 'bubble' is over, as prices on both have dropped down to more reasonable levels.
Overall, it looks like there's some mild inflation for now.
I'd be curious to hear how much $ worth of players people have accumulated so far. I'm around $360, and the one person I've compared notes with is about $30 ahead of me.
Still many underpriced players (especially closers) as well as obviously overpriced ones. In fact, if there's one area where the pricing mechanism doesn't seem to work perfectly so far, its guys who were overpriced and barely drafted at all. For example, Keith Foulke's price has barely dropped.

I'm at $355 currently
$388
I'm at about $370, which I found amazing considering I sold Young and Kendrick well before their peak.
i'm up to about $380 now
Kenny Rogers will be out for maybe 1/2 the year but he's only down 12% right now. Seems odd as you have to figure that demand will be very low to non-existent and supply could be fairly high since he was likely drafted by quite a few teams unlike Foulke.
460
460, wow! Nice job eric. Wanna share how you did that?
Is there a quick way to tell the total value of my roster? I keep punching it into Excel to add up.
I'm at $412 plus $10 in cash. Started with Young, Kendrick, Pujols, Soriano, and Fielder. Sold Young (not quite fast enough) and Kendrick already for better, cheaper players. Also had a few other $1 guys who are up to $6.
With all the extra money on the sidelines -- draft leftover plus the $25 we all got -- players are all being pushed up. Even the guys I picked up mid-day today, when the market should have stabilized, are up $9.
started with young, kendrick, paplebon, and a few other small guys.. picked up pujols, reyes, and sizemore, harden, soriano when market opened
Wow to you both. I just really didn't see the increase in studs (Pujols, Reyes, Soriano) in time to pick them up. They were all up pretty respectably by the time I logged on (9:30 ET) so I didn't think it was worth it.
$460 is a nice little advantage over most managers going into the season.
I've had Iannetta and Hart since my draft, but I can't see selling either of them because I think they will both produce above their current prices. Plus, even if there is a sell-off like with Young and Kendrick, I can't see their value falling more than a couple $$, so they are still pretty low-risk.
I'm trying to decide whether its worth holding Anthony Reyes and Patterson (both on my bench) until their start, or whether I should just sell now and pocket the $5...
question:
say I have wagner in a RP slot.. if he doesn't pitch for the game, will I be able to re-use that slot? I know the slot will be used up if he does pitch.
eric - Yes. If he doesn't pitch, it doesn't burn the roster slot and for hitters also doesn't count towards the game limit.
Now please tell me you used my referral code when you signed up, so I win the $10K bonus when you turn your $460 rotodollar$ into a first place finish!
sorry i signed up for rotohog way before i saw this forum... i don't even know how i have an account to post..
i mean don't remember making an account on this blog
Looks like the readers of this blog are the cream of the crop at RotoHog! Much credit to you, Alex, for doing this, and to Eric for gaining $160 in one day! Great job guys! It was a really exciting time at 6am (for me, 9am for most of you, I imagine), to see the Young and Kendrick bubble forming. Just so you guys know, the first day of trading went really smoothly.
my theory on the Gambler is this: people are less likely to sell when a stock is down. (sorry to spew bs stuff I learned in behavioral economics...but I will anyway) :-) In the Gambler's case, people are resigned to holding him until he gets healthy. Where as, many people have sold DY and HK, because it's much easier to sell a stock that you've made gains on. So we'll likely see a lot of this. Of course if a player is out for the year, then he should drop a little faster.
The reason rogers didn't experience a big sell off is that he wasn't widely owned enough to make a difference.
I'm up to $415 or so including cash.
Question on lineups. Can you start a guy at 1 PM, have him play, waive him at 5 PM, start someone else in the same slot at 7 PM, and have all the stats count?
You'd have to email Rotohog customer support, but I'm pretty sure the answer is no. You can re-use the $ -- say sell a 1B at 5 PM buy an OF and start him for his 7 PM game -- but you can't have two players in the same slot in the same day. Alex may be correct that if the first player doesn't play, you can reuse the slot. Certainly a DNP doesn't count toward your season long game limit.
Thanks for the heads up.
The one follow up question is, how long do you have to wait to waive the player to reuse the $$? After the game starts? After it ends?
$440.00
Sold Kendrick, Young, & Markakis close to their peak.
Also sold David Wright.
Bought Utley & Miggy.
Bought Victorino, Hart, & Orvella in hopes of some more gains before May.
I'm hoping to have an All-Star Lineup by May 15th and I'm getting pretty close.
i cant seem to make any roster edits, like moving someone from bench to a position.. anyone else experiencing the same thing?
